Jun Heng's 1st Post ... (cant think of a good title)

Hi people! =P Surprise to see me posting right? Wish you all have made full use of the time studying during the September Holidays... For my September Holidays... to be truthful, I didn't study much. Zero motivation. Zero drive. I also come to wonder why am I even studying now. I know that many people come to JC is to go to University... But I have start to wonder... why work so hard in getting into University? Paper qualification for jobs? I'm a person that cannot work without big goals in mind. No clear goals, no motivation. When people ask me what course I want to take in University, I always tell people, " er... i will go into business course bahs... or maybe arts or social science course... im also interested in doing chemistry... physics..." Well, firstly, I have lots of courses I like, but I have not found the course that I wish to dedicate my life into. Secondly, I have not much ideas about courses and their requirements.

With this in mind, I went to search up the net for the University courses in NUS. This is what I found.

# Students without H1 or H2 Physics need to have an ‘O’ Level pass in Physics or its equivalent and they are required to take specified Physics bridging modules offered by the Faculty of Science.

From the looks of it, Mathematics and Chemistry is very important for us as it opens up a range of variety of courses for us. Looking at this, I panicked. Mathematics for me is quite worrying... Chemistry? Worse.... What am I left to if I don't do well in these 2 subjects?

Additional information...

Meet the Mother Tongue (MT) requirement for admission by having one of the following:

  • a minimum of D7 for the higher MT paper taken at the 'O' Level examination.

  • a minimum of ‘S’ grade for the H1 MTL paper or General Studies in Chinese.
  • a minimum of 'S' grade for the H2 MTLL paper taken at the 'A' Level examination.

  • a pass in the MT 'B' Syllabus paper at the 'A' Level examination.

Mother Tongue Bonus Points
Students who have done well in their higher MT subject (Chinese, Malay or Tamil) or MT subject (Chinese, Malay or Tamil) at the 'A' Level examination are eligible for MT bonus points on condition they pass the required modules in their respective MT subjects:
  1. Chinese Language or Chinese Studies.
  2. Malay Studies.
  3. South Asian Studies.
The following MT bonus points will be awarded:
  1. Two bonus points for applicants who attained at least an E grade H2 MTLL;

Applicants who used the MT bonus points for admission to the Arts and Social Science course will have to sign an undertaking at the point of acceptance
.

For more information on the use of bonus points to gain admission to MT-related courses, you can refer to MOE website.

Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) & National Service (NS)points

With effect from AY2007-2008, CCA PEARLS and CCA-NS PEARLS points are no longer taken into consideration for computation of the University Score.

Comments:

The first thing that attracted my attention is no more bonus points for CCA & NS...=/ Blehs. They just implemented it this year. This will imply that guys will have the same hard time like the girls in applying a course than guys in the past.

Mother tongue... must have at least a pass(in order to apply to U) ... I think most of us know already=/

Okay... honestly, for me Mother tongue getting a pass is not hard for me, and I think our mother tongue standards (H1CL) is quite good. It is good for us to aim for an A for MT, so we can get one bonus point, easier to get into university.

Sorry to sound so serious, giving a whole load of infor suddenly. But, I wish this could help everyone, one way or another. (Because I am lost in this way of endless studying) Don't worry if you still cannot decide for a course now, because, eventually, your dreams will find you =) However, if you can't decide what to do now, I hope you will invest more time on your Maths and Chemistry. Trust me, you will find that you will have a whole range of courses to choose from if you do well in them.

Okay, end of serious tone. Recently, I stumbled over an interesting word. "Ciao" - Italic way of greeting. I know many of you heard this word before, and even used it. But, did you know the real meaning to it? I bet most of you will be surprised as I am... the real meaning of the word is " I am your slave". Shock? I am. XD Here is a dictionary website : http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/ciao You can also check www.dictionary.com too... they even have a history to it. Wow... I think I wrote alot! Dunno if I had made the longest post. =P Anyways, all the best for the upcoming promos (and small lil test that are coming our way... maths, chem, physics, H1Cl... bleh =/)!

*note: this post is not meant to criticize anybody

hey guys, i'm feeling very emotional now. as in, i have so much so much to say to everyone. as much as i wanna help myself to do better, i want to help the class too. i know, i dont hold leadership positions, my studies suck and so on. in fact, i dont even know in what position am i in to type this post. perhaps i'm too desperate. but one thing i'm very sure of is, i'm determined to fight this battle, are you?

take for example, math tutorial in the morning. for those who din come on time, this is for you.

howleong: ms ng, u want me to give them a call or something?
ms ng: howleong, at this point of time, no matter how hard you tried to pull them along but if they themselves dunt wanna to work, there's no point.

do you know how sad this is? its like almost implying that she's given up hope on some of us. sometimes i feel that i'm being looked upon as a potential retainee (no offence to the current retainees) can you see or feel all these? or is all these things oblivious to you? i certainly felt that what ms ng said was very true. if you dont even put in effort to help yourself, then how you expect ppl to help you? everytime as i watch quietly at the side, observing your conversations and all. when you speak vulgar, howleong and jiawen hits you, have you made an effort not to curse and swear again? or do you think tml will be another day then you will think of it another time. then i'll question myself, is this really working?

why is ppl like howleong working so hard to push ppl along when he can just go and mug by his own? despite our poor chemistry results, why does mrs tan still slot in so much time to help us revise for chemistry? why does ms toh have so much patience to explain and explain again when we dont understand? when all these happen, are you appreciative of it or are you like 'shit, more lessons again, faster end the lesson leh' i urge everyone, the least you can do to show your appreciation is to thank the teacher, esp on teachers' day.

then i was talking about pushing yourself. i noticed from daily routines, the mindsets of the people. its like you've given up on yourself unconciously. dont.
there is still time people, but very limited. the more you should work now! start doing your ten year series, reduce tv time, reduce internet surfing hours, revise constantly and everywhere, in the toilet, on the bus, waiting for mrt, whatever. you've got to be thristy for scoring. just keep pushing on, just do a favour for yourself, stay discipline (i recommend making a study timetable for everyday, and follow strictly to it) for the next 30 days. and even if the results arent promising, as long as you know you've made the effort, you wont regret. the worst thing that could ever happen to a person is to die regretting. anyway, if you've study, i dont think your results will be that bad. no matter what, always think of this, what are you doing all these for? your friends? teachers? parents? no, you're working for yourself. your friends, teachers, parents etc will never benefit if you do well what. so do you still think its a chore for you? call each other to have study sessions, and when you study, make sure you concentrate, dont get distracted. dont let this time pass you by. i wish for you, my dear classmates. until then, all the best! jiayou!
